I stayed at Mercure Kyoto Station alone in June 2022!
Mercure Kyoto Station is a hotel of the Accor Group, one of the world’s largest hospitality groups, with over 5,000 hotels and residences in 110 countries around the world.
The hotel is based on the concept of “Heian-kyo, aristocratic play”, and the interior was very stylish, allowing me to enjoy a different space!
In this article, I will review my impressions of actually using the hotel!
- Those who want to stay in a stylish hotel in Kyoto
- Those who are looking for a stylish hotel near the station
- Those who are considering staying at Mercure Kyoto Station
Overview of Mercure Kyoto Station
Mercure is a foreign-owned French hotel.
Expectations are high as this is the first hotel in the Kansai region under the Mercure brand, managed by Accor, which is based in Paris, France! Within Japan, there are hotels in Sapporo, Tokyo Ginza, Haneda, Hibiya, Yokosuka, Nagoya, Hida Takayama, Osaka, Kyoto, and Okinawa.
With 23 hotels scheduled to open across Japan in spring 2024, this is a hotel brand that is likely to gain more attention.

What sets it apart is the sophisticated atmosphere that is so characteristic of France!
The Mercure Kyoto where I stayed this time also had an appealing, gorgeous interior design based on the concept of “Heian-kyo, aristocratic playground.”
Access to Mercure Kyoto Station
Mercure Kyoto Station Hotel is located about an 8-minute walk from the central exit of Kyoto Station.
It’s a little bit of a walk from the station, but most of the walking path is on main streets, so I didn’t feel unsafe walking alone at night as a woman.
By the way, please note that the entrance is not on the main street, Horikawa Shiokoji, but on a back alley one block before! I made the mistake of thinking that the entrance was on the main street…

If you walk down the back alley just before the main street, you will arrive at Mercure Kyoto Station.
The exterior has a calm impression that matches the quaint Kyoto!
Mercure Kyoto Station interior
Mercure Kyoto Station has 10 floors and 225 guest rooms with multiple types of rooms available.
This time I stayed in a room on the 7th floor. The elegant atmosphere can be seen even from the elevator hall!

It’s a wonderful fusion of European modernity and Kyoto’s traditional Japanese atmosphere!
Not only did the elevator lobby have an elegant atmosphere, but it also had a nice, relaxing scent.
A space with a nice scent is somehow calming, isn’t it?

This time I stayed in a Superior King room, measuring 23 square meters.
It was spacious enough for a single person to stay. The interior was Japanese modern and very stylish! It would look great on Instagram!

The TV was mounted on the wall and was very stylish! It was set up so that it was directly in front of the bed.
I was so happy to be able to lie down on the big bed and watch TV! What’s more, this bed had a high-quality Simmons mattress! It was great to be able to relax in such a fluffy bed!!

Unfortunately, the room I stayed in this time did not have a view of Kyoto Tower, but I heard that you can see Kyoto Tower from another room. It’s wonderful to be able to see Kyoto Tower from your room!

There was a stylish night table next to the pillow.
You can easily charge your phone and adjust the lighting on this night table!

The bathroom and bathroom were also a chic space with a black base.
There was no bathtub, but the shower and toilet were separate so I was able to take a long shower!
There was no bathtub in the room I stayed in, but it seems that there are other room types that come with a bathtub.
Mercure Kyoto Station basement lounge
The basement lounge at Mercure Kyoto Station has an elegant space with a gagaku motif, where you can relax and unwind.
Head down the stairs from the lobby to reach the lounge space in the basement. Of course, you can also take the elevator down!

The lounge is lined with chairs and sofas, so you can work on your computer or read a book. I actually worked on my computer for about an hour there, and it was a calm space so I was able to concentrate on my work.

I feel truly happy when I can spend time reading a book, working on the computer, or doing what I love in a stylish space.

There is a sunken kotatsu and a long table in the back, which seems like a good place to hold travel plans.
