[Phuket Phi Phi Islands] A summary of what you need to bring when traveling to Phuket and Phi Phi Islands!

In this article, I will share with you what I felt I needed to bring with me when I traveled to Phuket Phi Phi Island!

It is my personal opinion, but I will share my real experience with you, and I hope it will be helpful to those who are going to travel to Phuket Phi Phi Island or are considering traveling abroad or to Phi Phi Island!

This article is perfect for you if…
  • If you are planning a trip to Phi Phi Island but are wondering what you need to bring
  • If you want to know what to wear when joining a Phi Phi Island tour
  • If you want to know real experiences of people who went to Phi Phi Island

What to bring on your trip to Phuket Phi Phi Island: Essentials

First, I will start with what I felt was essential to take on the Phi Phi tour! I will also introduce the items I was considering purchasing right up until the last minute.

What I thought I must have
  • Smartphone: a necessity that must be mentioned
  • Voucher: used to present to tour transfer driver and tour officials upon arrival
  • Cash: used for shopping, kayak rental, and tips on Phi Phi Island
  • Sandals: we recommend sandals that you don’t mind getting wet or being stepped on
  • Swimsuit: required if you plan to go in the ocean or swim!

Sandal

Sandals are recommended for footwear! Sneakers are not recommended because of the boat ride.

When landing on the island, you will arrive at a beach near the surf, so footwear that is designed to get wet is definitely recommended!

Of course, high heels are also dangerous and definitely not recommended…

I wore Nike Air Max Coco for the tour!

Incidentally, the author was considering purchasing marine shoes until just before the tour, but was able to spend the tour in his own Air Max Coco without any problems!

However, since there are many bumpy paths to walk on during the tour, marine shoes might be better for those who are worried about injury or who prefer to walk in comfortable shoes.

I got the impression that many small children were wearing marine shoes! They are surprisingly reasonable, so if you are worried about them, you may want to buy some ◎

Swimsuit

This is a must for those who want to go into the ocean and snorkel.

There is no place to change clothes, so we recommend that you change from your hotel!

There is a place if you don’t mind changing in the small, not-so-clean restroom. If you don’t mind changing in a small, not-so-clean bathroom, there is a place.

Also, if you are snorkeling in the ocean, I do not recommend you to wear a swimsuit with a neck holder or other type of tie…. I wore a one-piece swimsuit and denim shorts!

I got the impression that many women, including those from overseas, were wearing swimsuits and show pants. Since you are traveling abroad, you might as well take the plunge and try showing your legs.

What to bring on your trip to Phuket Phi Phi Island: Convenient

Next, here are some of the things we felt good about having!

Things that are convenient to have
  • Standing order: anti-seasickness medicine to prevent seasickness. Items you may want to add to your list of essentials
  • Waterproof case for your phone: You can take underwater photos, and you can hang it from your neck with a strap, so it is safe for anything.
  • Waterproof bag: I think a waterproof bag would be a good idea, but you could also use a regular bag.
  • Towel: If you are going to be in the ocean, this is a must-have. Even if you don’t go in the ocean, it is useful to have a towel.
  • Rash guard: Also useful to have.

Household medicine

I can personally say that this item was a necessity next to my phone and cash!

The boat for the tour to Phi Phi Island is quite bumpy. I usually don’t have a chance to ride on a boat, so I was surprised at how bumpy it was… There were a few people on the boat who were limping.

To be honest, other luggage such as swimsuits, sandals, waterproof bags, etc. can be procured locally if you have the money, but anti-sickness medication is medicine, so you may not be comfortable buying products in a language (Thai) that you are not familiar with at a store.

The tour company will give you medicine before you board the ship, but it is like being given medicine directly in a Tupperware container, so if you want to take medicine from a manufacturer you know, or if you are not used to riding on a ship, we definitely recommend that you buy it in Japan before you go!

I think you can get them at any pharmacy, but the author bought them here!

Waterproof cases for smartphones, waterproof bags

For those who go into the ocean, a waterproof case for your phone is quite useful!

You can also take underwater photos when snorkeling!

You can buy a waterproof case locally, but it is rather expensive, so I recommend that you buy one in Japan and bring it with you.

I was worried about buying a waterproof bag until right before the tour, but I was able to spend my time without any problems even with a normal cloth bag!

However, you will get a little wet, and I think it is safer to bring a waterproof bag if you are bringing a change of clothes or if you do not want to get the contents of your bag absolutely wet.

Towel

Unfortunately, the tour I joined did not offer any special service such as towel rental service. Unfortunately, there was no such thing as a towel rental service on the tour we took!

I personally recommend these Dog & Bay beach towels!

It is made of a material that does not easily get sand on it, so it is easy to fold and compact, making it easy to use. It is frustrating to have sand stuck to your towel, isn’t it?

I also use this beach towel when I go to the beach!

Rash guard

If you go to the ocean, it is almost a must-have item, and even if you don’t go to the ocean, it would be useful to have one!

Even if you don’t go to the beach, it would be useful to have a jacket when it is chilly or when you want to protect yourself from ultraviolet rays.

However, you may be able to substitute a T-shirt or a cardigan, so it is a question of whether you need to buy a new one or not.

Sunglasses, Sunscreen

I would recommend that you bring both sunglasses and sunscreen with you basically!

Phuket Phi Phi Island is really sunny, so I had to reapply sunscreen frequently. I recommend that you take all possible measures to protect yourself from UV rays so that you will not regret getting sunburned!

I took all kinds of sunscreen measures, including the paint type, spray type, mist type, and all kinds of sunscreen.

Mobile battery

Unfortunately, there are no electrical outlets on board!

So if you are worried about your battery, we recommend that you bring a mobile battery.

Without a battery, your phone will be useless.

Water

It would be a relief to have it! Although water was distributed during the ship’s service, I think it would be even safer if you have your own water.

I would like to avoid heat stroke during the trip.

Things I felt I didn’t need

Finally, I’d like to introduce some things that I felt were unnecessary after participating in the Phi Phi Island tour and the reasons why!

These are just my personal opinions, so I’ll leave the final decision up to you.

Things I felt I didn’t need
  • Parasol: It’s also a burden to carry, so I don’t think it was necessary.
  • Goggles: They lend you goggles when snorkeling, so I don’t think it’s necessary.
  • Clothes: I didn’t have time to change, so I don’t think it was necessary.

Parasol

I kept one in my bag to protect myself from the sun, but I never used it!

Almost no one uses a parasol to protect themselves from the sun in Phuket.

However, during the rainy season (June to late October), there are sudden rain showers, so it might be useful to have one that can be used in both rain and shine. This may depend on the season you go to Phi Phi Island.

I felt that it was unnecessary unless you absolutely did not want to get sunburned or you were going to Phi Phi Island during the rainy season.

Goggles

Just to be on the safe side, I brought them with me, but I never ended up using them!

The tour company will lend you goggles when you go snorkeling, and I don’t think you need them unless you want to swim seriously with your face in the ocean outside of snorkeling time.

Change of clothes

This is an item that I felt I didn’t need to bring because it would have been too much luggage.

The tour I participated in had a schedule where after the Phi Phi Island tour, we got on a van and headed to the hotel as soon as we arrived in Phuket, so there was barely any time to slowly change clothes…

There was time to go to the toilet, but there was no time to take a shower, so I think it’s unnecessary for those who want to take their time changing clothes after taking a shower.

Summary

Even if you don’t go into the sea, you may get wet when getting on and off the boat on the Phi Phi Island tour, so

it is recommended that you wear clothes and luggage that you assume you will get wet!

Also, there are times when you cannot bring large bags, so I recommend that you keep small and large bags separate. It’s like being told to get off the boat with only your valuables!

Large bags will be left on the boat, so I thought it would be convenient to keep them separate from your valuables!

Well, I’ve written a lot, but Phi Phi Island is a wonderful place, so I think it’s worth visiting at least once if you come to Phuket.

I hope this article will be helpful for those who are considering a trip to Phi Phi Island ♪
