[Boracay Islands] A summary of what you need to bring when traveling to Boracay islands!

Boracay Island, one of the best hideaway resorts in the Philippines.

White Beach, with 4km of pure white sand and blue waters so clear that it has been selected as one of the best beaches in the world.

If you’re going to Boracay Island, you’ll want to make sure you don’t forget anything. In this article, we’ll introduce the things you need to bring when you travel to Boracay Island.

Although this is my personal opinion, I’ll share my “real experience” of actually going to Boracay Island, so I hope it will be helpful for those who are going to Boracay Island or considering going to a beach resort♪

What to bring on your trip to Boracay Island : Essentials

First, I’ll introduce the things I felt were absolutely necessary after spending a week on Boracay Island.

The essential items listed here are things you won’t be able to travel without, and you won’t be able to have a comfortable stay unless you prepare, so be sure to prepare them before you head there!

What I thought I must have
  • Passport: You can’t travel without it!
  • Smartphone: Needless to say, a modern necessity
  • Cash: Philippine currency, pesos. I used it to pay for tips
  • SIM card: If you can’t connect to the internet, your smartphone is useless!

What to bring on your trip to Boracay Island : Convenient

Next, I’ll introduce some things that I’m glad I brought to Boracay.

Some things can be obtained locally, but I generally recommend bringing things you’re used to using from Japan!

It all depends on how you spend your time on Boracay, so these are just examples, but I hope they’ll be helpful to you ♪

Things that are convenient to have
  • Sunscreen: Boracay is a very sunny island, so it’s good to take precautions against UV rays
  • Sunglasses: A must-have item for UV protection
  • Beach sandals: Bring them! You’ll want to walk barefoot on the white beach
  • Swimsuit: An essential item if you’re going into the ocean or swimming
  • Rash guard: It’s very convenient to have one
  • Float: If you want to spend a relaxing time at the beach or pool, we recommend bringing one
  • Waterproof smartphone case: You can take underwater photos and you can hang it around your neck with a strap, so it’s very safe
  • Sickness medicine: A must for those who get motion sickness easily! I recommend the familiar Japanese-made motion sickness medicine
  • Towel: Some hotels will lend you one, but it’s a good idea to have one

Sunscreen, sunglasses

The sun is strong at the beach, so sun protection is essential!!! You can buy it locally, but it’s a good idea to bring a sunscreen from a brand you’re used to using.

There are many sunscreens from various manufacturers, but we recommend environmentally friendly sunscreens with beach-friendly formulas.

We recommend using beach-friendly sunscreens to help protect our beautiful ocean!!

Beach sandals / sandals

We definitely recommend wearing beach sandals!!!

The main White Beach is a beautiful sandy beach that stretches for 4km.

When you see the beautiful blue ocean and white sand, you’ll want to take off your shoes and walk on the white beach! Lol

You can walk in sneakers, but sand will get in, so I definitely recommend wearing flip-flops or sandals.

It’s great that there are more and more stylish and cute flip-flops these days!

Swimwear

I recommend bringing one with you!!!

You can also buy one on site, but it might be very difficult to find a swimsuit that fits you perfectly.

When you see the beautiful ocean and infinity pool, you’ll naturally want to swim!

There were lots of people walking around in their swimsuits, and it seemed like many people were wearing swimsuits and shorts.

Since you’re traveling abroad, it might be a good idea to try wearing something different from what you usually wear!

Rash guard

This is an essential item for anyone going to the beach or pool!!!

Even if you’re not going to the beach, it’s chilly at night, so it’s reassuring to have something to wear over your clothes.

You can also use a T-shirt or cardigan, but a rash guard with UV protection is very convenient to have!

Swim ring

If you want to relax at the beach or pool, I recommend bringing one with you. Floating on a swim ring and spending time at the beach was amazing!!!

You can buy them locally, but there are few stores that sell them and they are quite expensive, so we recommend bringing your own.

However, they will also be a burden to carry, so if you want to reduce the amount of luggage you carry, you will probably either buy them locally even though they are more expensive, or just relax without using a swim ring.

Waterproof smartphone case

If you’re going to the beach or pool, we recommend bringing a waterproof case for your smartphone!

Your smartphone is a valuable item that you’ll want to keep close to you at all times, and it’s also convenient to have one so you can take photos from the beach or pool.

You can buy them locally, but they are expensive, so I recommend buying them in Japan and bringing them with you. It might be convenient to have a waterproof bag, but I was able to get by without one.

Towel

Some hotels will lend you towels, but it’s a good idea to have at least one with you!

The towel we recommend for going to the beach is the Dog & Bay beach towel!

Unlike regular towels, it’s made of a material that doesn’t easily attract sand, so it’s extremely convenient to use.

It can be folded compactly, making it easy to carry. It comes in a variety of colorful colors, so it stands out on Boracay’s white beach!!!

Motion sickness medicine

Depending on whether you’re going on an island hopping or sailing tour, it’s a good idea to bring motion sickness medicine with you!

Swimsuits, sandals, waterproof bags, and other other luggage can be purchased locally as long as you have the money, but motion sickness medicine is medicine, so you might be a little hesitant to buy a product in an unfamiliar language.

So, if you get motion sickness easily, we recommend bringing it from your country!

Things I felt I didn’t need

After a week-long trip to Boracay, I’d like to introduce the things I felt I didn’t need and why!

These are just my personal opinions, so I’ll leave the final decision up to you.

必要なかったと感じたもの
  • Parasol: It would have been a burden to carry so I didn’t feel the need to bring one!
  • Sneakers: I was fine with flip flops so I didn’t personally feel they were necessary.

Parasol

I brought one to protect myself from the sun, but I never used it!

I hardly saw anyone using a parasol to protect themselves from the sun. lol

However, during the rainy season (June to late October), it seems that there are sudden rains, so it might be useful to have one that can be used in both sunny and rainy weather.

Even though it’s the rainy season, it doesn’t rain all day like the rainy season in Japan, and most of the time it’s just a quick shower that lasts for 1-2 hours, but it might be a good idea to decide depending on what season you’re going to Boracay Island.

Sneakers

I never had a chance to use them…!

I got the impression that most people on Boracay were wearing flip flops or sandals.

Your belongings may vary depending on how you want to spend your time on Boracay and what season you go, but I hope you’ll use this as an example to help you out ♪

Summary: Let’s go to Boracay!

Boracay Island is not yet well known, but it is a wonderful place that cannot be expressed in words.
